New Staff Member – Aaron Hixson

If you saw my blog post the other day, you were able to read about our new youth pastor, Aaron Hixson. If you missed it, you can find it HERE. This post will give you the opportunity to learn a little bit more about Aaron.


In a sentence or two, what does your job look like at
Northridge? (Since you haven't started – what do you think it will look
goal of my job is to see students from all backgrounds become fully devoted to
Christ. Through teaching, discipleship, relationship-building and leadership
development, I strive to see more and better disciples emerging from our
student ministry and becoming connected with our church's overall

Where did you grow up?
grew up in Sandusky, Ohio. 

What’s your favorite ice cream?
(occasionally I'll go crazy and get Cookie Dough or Cookies and Cream…but
that's pretty crazy)

Where is the farthest you have ever traveled?
took a trip to South Africa in college. (Direct flight from JFK to
Johannesburg. 17 hours… miserable)

What kind of car do you drive?
Buick Regal Custom. That bad boy is fly. 

What does an ideal day off look like for you?
sufficient sleep, getting something worthwhile accomplished before 9:30 AM,
reading a fiction book for a bit, spending time with my wife most of the day
and then pickup basketball in the evening. 

What is one thing about you people would be surprised to
have an extra vertebrae in the lumbar region of my spine. I had LASIK surgery.
I also wear bowties regularly. 

What’s your favorite thing about Northridge?
church has a crystal clear process of discipleship, and no matter what a
person's background, the church is committed to helping people take steps
toward being like Jesus. 

What is
your family like?
grew up in a family of extroverts and crazy personalities. I escaped the
madness by marrying my fun B-type personality wife. She keeps me down to earth,
and we love to read, play music, be outside and hang out with other people. 

Have you
ever won anything? If so, what did you win?
won Golden Glove on my little-league baseball team the year we won our town's
World Series. It was my proudest moment. 

Why did
you want to work at Northridge?
wanted to be a part of genuine movement of God where people are getting saved,
and lives are being changed. This perfectly describes Northridge. 

celebrity do you get mistaken for?
Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter… I used to have glasses) or Adam Levine (Maroon
5 singer, judge on "The Voice").  

When you
have 30 minutes of free time, how do you pass the time?
up my apartment while listening to a debate between philosophers regarding
morality/existence of God/cosmic origins. 

How did
you meet your spouse?
met at college in our freshman Music Theory class. We shared a keyboard. Nerd

What is
one food that you will not eat?
Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream. 

What is
your favorite type of exercise?
some kind of group sport. However, if I must exercise alone, I enjoy

What was
your first job?
Technician at Chick-fil-A. I might've made up that title to make my job sound
important… I just made chicken sandwiches. 

your favorite sandwich?
Original Chicken Sandwich with no Pickles. 

What is
your biggest challenge?
over myself and my limitations to see God's sufficiency. 

your favorite movie?
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. 

If you
could meet anyone from the Bible (besides Jesus), who would it be and what
would you ask them?
person who wrote the book of Hebrews. I would ask them why they didn't just
sign the letter so we wouldn't have to debate so much about it! 

But seriously – Abraham. I would ask him how he continued to walk by faith even though
God sometimes went years without giving Him more instructions.)

Are you
a morning person or a night person?
love both. This has created quite a conundrum in my life. Some would call it
"sleep deprivation." 

What is
one hobby you have?

your favorite restaurant?

What is
something God has been teaching you in recent days?
God uses people who are "in-process"
and imperfect. Our mixed motives and weaknesses are no match for God's power
and plan for the city of Rochester.
