Getting to Chad Takes a Long Time (CHAD Trip – Days 1 & 2)

I want to take a break from "When Helping Hurts" (more coming later). I just can't wait to share with all of you what we are experiencing in Chad. I will do it through photos and brief explanations.

We left Rochester on a 6:00 AM flight on Wednesday morning. The final plane trip – we got off the plane Friday morning at around 9:00 AM. It is 5 hours ahead of Rochester, but that is still 46 hours of travel with one overnight in N'Djamena, Chad (the capital).

Day 1.01
We flew from Rochester to Washington DC.

Day 1.02
Three hour layover in DC – then a 10:15 flight to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia!

Day 1.03

Beautiful views…

Day 1.04

Our route…

Day 1.05

Two boys on the flight to Ethiopia wanted to teach me a "cool" handshake.

THAT ends day 1 of travel – and day two began in Ethiopia.

Chad 2

After a four hour layover in Ethiopia, we flew to Chad. In case you don't know where CHAD is. You can see the capital on the left side of the country. We flew into there (N'Djamena).

Day 2.02

When we landed in N'Djamena, a World Concern employee met us and took us to a hotel. We weren't allowed to leave the hotel because of safety issues in N'Djamena. Safety isn't a huge concern where we are going, but here in this city – it isn't the safest place right now. So we waited in a hotel. We are getting the United Nations flight tomorrow from N'Djamena to Goz Beida (way over on the east side of the country.

Day 3 tomorrow…
