New Staff Member – Jake Kallman

Jake Kallman is our new seminary intern for this next year. We think pastoral internships are essential! You wouldn't want a doctor who had only studied in the classroom. You wouldn't want a lawyer who had never seen a courtroom. A seminary internship is to give guys in the last year of their degree one-year of practical ministry training and experience. Here is a bit more about Jake…

In a
sentence or two, what does your job look like at Northridge?
I am an intern at Northridge so I get the pleasant
opportunity to do whatever Scott tells me to do :D. In all seriousness though,
I love being able to have an opportunity to work in so many different avenues
of ministry and be mentored in the faith by great men.

Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Grand Rapids Michigan (the same church where Scott Bixby grew up).

Put your iTunes on shuffle. What are the first
3 songs to pop up?
“Treasure” by Bruno Mars
“We Belong Together” by Steven Curtis Chapman
“Joy To the Word” by The Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra

What’s your favorite ice cream?
Moose Tracks

Where is the farthest you have ever traveled?
Dominican Republic (twice)

What kind of car do you drive?
Black 2005 Buick Rendezvous Ultra

What is one thing about you people would be
surprised to learn?

I had Spinal Meningitis when I was 3 weeks
old.

Tell us about your family.
I(Jake) am the Extrovert of my family. My
beautiful wife (Tiffany) is kind, compassionate, loving and more quiet which
she helps tame me… A little. And God gave us the sweetest daughter (Aaliyah)
who got my personality (always smiling and happy) and Tiffany’s good looks.

Have you
ever won anything? If so, what did you win?

I won the Annual Christian Service award at my college.

Have you
ever collected anything? If so, what was it?

Sobe drink bottles

Why did
you want to work at Northridge?

The pastoral team is one of the best in the
nation and I knew would help me be a better minister of God’s people. The
energy at the church is amazing as well as the people. God is definitely
working at Northridge and I wanted to be a part of that.

Which
celebrity do you get mistaken for?

Jackie Chan….ahhh JUST KIDDING. I can’t
recall when I was mistaken for a celebrity.

How did
you meet your spouse?

I met Tiffany freshman weekend at college. (Although I don’t remember it…..)

What is
one food that you will not eat?
Squid

What is
one book you are reading right now?

“The 21 Most Dangerous Questions of the
Bible” by Dave Earley

What was
your first job?

Factory work in an office furniture
fabrication division.

What’s
your favorite sandwich?

Anything with a lot of stuff on it. I like
the works not just meat and bread. Anything from turkey/ham/roast beef to
buffalo chicken.

What is
your biggest challenge?

Not stumbling over myself

If you
could meet anyone from the Bible (besides Jesus), who would it be and what
would you ask them?

Daniel. How did you handle the stress of
living in a pagan world but serving the Almighty God with such passion and
devotion?

What’s
your favorite restaurant?

Captain George’s Sea Food

What is
something God has been teaching you in recent days?

Reliance/trust.
When God led Israel out of Egypt he did not take them on the most direct route to the Promise Land. He avoided the Philistines to protect Israel (even though
they did not know that) and in doing so took them on the long way around. So my
lesson is that if God does not lead me along the shortest path to my goal,
don’t complain or resist. Follow him willingly and trust him to lead me safely
around the unseen.
