The Power of Social Media (“Two Explosions in the White House”)

Do you want to know how powerful social media is? Here is an amazing example:

Yesterday, someone hacked the official AP Twitter account and Tweeted this: “Breaking: Two Explosions in the White House and Barack Obama is injured.”

Here is what happened in the stock market soon after:

The rebound began three minutes later as word spread that the AP Tweet was a hoax. Even the White House Press Secretary had to respond verbally, telling reporters that, "The president is fine. I was just with him."

I still don't think we've seen and felt the impact that social media will have on all of our futures.

  1. It is scary to think how social media has consumed our society. It feels like no one ever wants to talk face to face instead they would rather communicate via facebook. I am so old school where I actually enjoy calling and talking to the person not just a quick text.
    Just my two sense…
