  1. That comment is the reason I never “promise” my kids things when they ask to do something or ask us to buy something for them. When they ask to do something or get something, I always say “maybe” or something along that line that they can never interpret as being a promise broken. Of course, they interpret “maybe” as “Yes!” and I always remind them that I said “maybe” not “Yes!” We usually end up doing or getting what they requested but only after a period of time that allows us to consider the options and other priorities that may exist within our family.
